Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish
Apr 12, 2021
This is my farewell letter to the team when I left italki.
Ten years ago, I watched the famous “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” speech. At the time, it didn’t really resonate with me. I didn’t even fully understand what it meant.
Now, looking back, everything feels surprisingly clear.
Life is full of risks, detours, and uncertainty. Only when you look back do the dots start to connect. I’ve wandered, panicked, and faced moments of frustration—but every success, every mistake, every small decision has brought me to this point. And everything I’ve done so far is shaping my next adventure.
Leaving Italki was not an easy decision. I loved the work I was doing, and more importantly, I loved the people I worked with. In the end, it’s the connections, the shared experiences, and the impact we’ve made together that I consider my greatest achievement.
One of the most moving moments was seeing the tears, feeling the appreciation and trust of the people around me. It made me realize that perhaps I had more impact than I ever imagined.
Here’s what I’ve learned—and what I hope others can take away:
Think about your intentions. What are your goals? What impact are you trying to create?
Don’t just execute tasks. Work becomes meaningful when you can see the difference you’re making.
Stay hungry. Always bring your best self to everything you do.
Stay foolish. Keep learning from others, stay curious, and embrace the unknown.
Leaving may create ripples in the short term, but growth is never stopped by change. Keep learning, keep pushing, and one day you’ll look back on these moments and smile at how far you’ve come.
Life is short. I may have been too hard at times, and I may have left some lessons unsaid. But the right time to let go and trust others to practice what they’ve learned is always now.
Set a goal. Make an impact. One day, all your hard work will pay off—guaranteed.
Keep fighting. Don’t settle.
